TSA permits e-cigarettes, vape pens, and e-liquid in carry-on baggage only — they may NOT be in checked baggage due to lithium-battery fire risk. E-liquids over 100ml must be in carry-on under the standard liquid-aerosols-gels rule (one quart-sized bag). State and local laws apply on the ground: vaping is banned in airports in CA, CT, FL, LA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, OR, UT plus most major-city ordinances. Federal age threshold: 21+.
Active — Customs actively enforces this rule.
800 USD duty-free exemption for returning residents after 48+ hours abroad. Alcohol allowance (1 L) applies to travelers 21+. Up to 200 cigarettes (1 carton) or 100 cigars. Additional goods up to $1,600 are taxed at flat 4% rate.
Keep vaping devices in carry-on only. Check destination state laws for local restrictions on flavored products.
