Information only — not legal or customs advice
All content on this website is provided for general information and reference purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice, customs advice, compliance advice, or any other form of professional advice. No information on this site creates a lawyer-client, broker-client, or any other professional relationship between you and the operators of this site.
Customs and import rules are legal determinations made by government authorities in the country where goods are declared. The interpretation and application of those rules to specific goods, shipments, or circumstances requires professional judgment that this site cannot and does not provide.
If you are making a commercial import decision, dealing with restricted or controlled goods, or face potential penalties for non-compliance, you should consult a qualified customs broker, freight forwarder, or trade compliance lawyer licensed in the relevant jurisdiction before acting.
Rules change — always verify before you ship or travel
Customs regulations, duty rates, prohibited item lists, and declaration thresholds change frequently and with little public notice. Governments may issue emergency regulations, update tariff schedules, implement new trade agreements, or impose temporary restrictions at any time.
The information on this site reflects what we found in official sources at the time of our last review, indicated by the lastVerified date shown on each entry. A lastVerified date does not guarantee the information is still current — it is the date we last checked, not a promise that nothing has changed since then.
Before shipping internationally or traveling with goods you are uncertain about:
- Check the official customs authority of the destination country directly
- Verify carrier-specific prohibited items lists on the carrier's own website
- For medications, check the destination country health ministry or drug authority
- See our country profiles for links to official customs authority websites for each destination
We provide links to official sources throughout this site. Those links go directly to government and intergovernmental websites and are the most reliable check available. We recommend consulting them, not solely relying on our summaries.
Commercial imports: use a licensed customs broker
For commercial shipments with a declared value above the destination country's de minimis threshold, customs entry is a formal legal process with financial and regulatory consequences. Errors in classification, valuation, or documentation can result in delays, seizures, penalties, and liability for unpaid duties.
A licensed customs broker in the destination country is authorized to act as your agent before the customs authority, advise on correct HS classification, identify applicable duty relief or preferential tariff rates, and prepare the required documentation. This site is not a substitute for that expertise.
Our duty calculator provides indicative estimates only. The actual duty liability on a shipment is determined by the destination customs authority based on the final declared value, tariff classification ruling, origin certification, and applicable trade agreements — none of which this site can assess for you.
