CORRECTIONS

Corrections policy

If something on this site is wrong, we want to know. This page explains how to report a correction, how we triage it, and what happens next.

How to report a correction

Every page on the site carries a "Report a correction" link in its footer. The form pre-fills the page URL and asks you for:

  • The exact statement you believe is wrong.
  • What you believe the correct information is.
  • An official source URL backing your correction.
  • Optionally, your name + email if you're happy to be credited.

We are most able to act on reports with an official source URL. Reports without sources are still useful, but go further down the queue.

How we triage

  1. Severity: safety- or law-relevant errors get same-day attention. Cosmetic errors get batched.
  2. Verification: we re-read the official source you cited and any other authoritative sources we already cite for the page.
  3. Fix or explain: if you're right, we update the rule, log it in the changelog, and bump lastVerified. If we keep the existing wording, we reply with the reason.
  4. Acknowledge: if you provided an email and asked for credit, we add you to the contributor list.

Turnaround

We aim to acknowledge correction reports within 3 business days and to action well-sourced reports within 14 days. Disputed reports get a written response.

Disagreements with official sources

When the official source disagrees with industry practice, we will generally state the official rule and note the divergence — rather than recommend the workaround. We are not a guide to circumventing customs.
