At the airport
- If carrying the equivalent of JPY 1,000,000 or more (approximately USD 6,500), you must complete the 'Declaration of Carrying of Means of Payment Etc.' (Form C) before approaching customs at NRT, HND, or KIX.
- Proceed to the customs counter and hand in the completed Form C together with your customs declaration form. The officer will verify and stamp the form.
- Failure to declare or making a false declaration can result in seizure of the undeclared amount and a fine under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act.
Values at or above this threshold must be declared (JPY).
Form C-5360 is available at the airport customs counter; complete it on arrival before clearing customs. Mixed-currency totals are summed at the day's exchange rate.
