Cash / Currency requires declaration at customs (and in some cases an import permit) when carried by travelers into Bahrain. Bahrain Customs Affairs applies a personal-allowance threshold per item category; quantities above attract duty + the destination's VAT/GST rate (10%) plus, for select categories, an additional excise tax. GCC Common Customs Law applies for GCC member states; national restrictions on alcohol / pork / political-religious content are strictly enforced. Leaving Bahrain with cash / currency
Travellers departing from Bahrain carrying cash, banker's cheques, bearer bonds, or other bearer-form negotiable instruments totalling BHD 6,000 or more must complete the Bahrain Customs cash declaration at customs before boarding. This threshold aggregates all currencies at exchange-rate parity. Failure to declare is grounds for seizure of the entire cash amount under Decree-Law No. 4 of 2001 (anti-money-laundering) plus criminal prosecution for aggravated cases. Source-of-funds documentation may be requested. Legitimate declared movements are not restricted; the requirement is transparency-based to combat money laundering and tax evasion.
