Malaysia permits travelers aged 18 or over to bring 1 litre of any alcoholic beverage duty-free. Quantities above the allowance are subject to high excise duty and SST (sales and service tax) — combined rates often exceed the original cost of the bottle. Alcohol is legally sold in non-Muslim retail outlets across most states; a few states (Terengganu, Kelantan) impose stricter local restrictions on consumption. Declare quantities exceeding the allowance on the customs declaration form.

Duty-free allowance: 1L alcohol, 200 cigarettes or 225g tobacco per adult. Personal goods valued up to MYR 1,000 (approx. USD $225) are duty-free. Alcohol allowance applies only to non-Muslim travelers. Goods from Labuan, Langkawi, and Tioman duty-free islands may have different rules.
