Italy applies the EU Council Directive 2007/74/EC duty-free allowance for non-EU arrivals: 1L spirits over 22% ABV, or 2L fortified wine, plus 4L still wine and 16L beer per adult traveler 17+. EU intra-community arrivals follow the indicative limits (10L spirits, 90L wine, 110L beer) as personal-use guidance. Excess attracts duty + 22% IVA at the Aduana Tributi counter.

For arrivals from outside the EU: 4L still wine + 16L beer + 1L spirits (>22% ABV) or 2L fortified wine (17+); 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco (17+). Goods: €430 for air/sea travelers, €300 for land travelers. Bringing in more than €10,000 in cash requires a declaration.
Standard duty-free allowance applies (typically 1L spirits + 1-2L wine + beer). Declare any quantity above; excise + 22% VAT computed at Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM — Customs and Monopolies Agency) Red Channel. Bring purchase receipts.
