Full Details

Posting perfume to India is customs-permitted but carrier-constrained: fragrance alcohol is a Class 3 dangerous-goods limited quantity, so many national posts refuse or cap air-mail perfume, and couriers require limited-quantity packaging. On the customs side Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) treats it as an ordinary parcel: an accurate CN22/CN23 declaration is required, import VAT/GST at 5% / 12% / 18% / 28% IGST applies above the exemption threshold, plus duty on above-threshold consignments. India effectively removed the de minimis threshold for e-commerce imports — all imports through e-commerce operators are subject to customs duty and IGST. Non-commercial gifts and samples under INR 5,000 may be exempt. Business sample imports may have duty exemption. The Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) applies to all imports.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Confirm the carrier accepts perfume before shipping to India — postal refusal is more common than a customs problem. Declare contents accurately on the CN22/CN23; 'gift' mislabelling does not remove import charges and flags the parcel.
