Leaving Indonesia with pepper spray
Where civilian possession is lawful in Indonesia, taking a personal defensive spray out of the country is not separately export-controlled, but two constraints bite: aviation rules forbid incapacitant sprays in cabin baggage universally and most airlines refuse them in checked baggage too (a single ≤100 ml self-defence spray in checked baggage is airline-discretionary under IATA provisions); and many destinations — including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and much of Europe — treat pepper spray as a prohibited weapon at import, with arrest a realistic outcome. Verify both the airline's policy and the destination's weapons law before carrying.
Do not carry pepper spray, OC spray, or tear-gas devices into Indonesia. Bea Cukai treats incapacitating sprays as prohibited weapons under the firearms / dangerous-articles regime; seizure plus a fine is the standard response.
