Full details
Pepper Spray is prohibited for travelers entering Czech Republic. Customs Administration of the Czech Republic screens baggage at all ports of entry; the item is seized regardless of quantity, and depending on item class (narcotic / weapon / counterfeit / cultural-heritage), the traveler may face administrative or criminal penalty under the destination's controlled-substances / customs act. EU customs harmonisation and EU Regulation 608/2013 IPR enforcement apply alongside national rules. Personal-import permit pathways exist for medication categories (see Customs Administration of the Czech Republic guidance) but do not apply to most prohibited items.
PENALTIES
- Fine: 5000–5000000 CZK
- Imprisonment up to 120 months
- Criminal penalty
Leaving Czech Republic with pepper spray
Where civilian possession is lawful in Czech Republic, taking a personal defensive spray out of the country is not separately export-controlled, but two constraints bite: aviation rules forbid incapacitant sprays in cabin baggage universally and most airlines refuse them in checked baggage too (a single ≤100 ml self-defence spray in checked baggage is airline-discretionary under IATA provisions); and many destinations — including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and much of Europe — treat pepper spray as a prohibited weapon at import, with arrest a realistic outcome. Verify both the airline's policy and the destination's weapons law before carrying.
Do not carry Pepper Spray into Czech Republic. If you arrive with the item by accident, surrender at the Red Channel for seizure-only treatment rather than walking the Green Channel — the latter is treated as deliberate smuggling. Contact Customs Administration of the Czech Republic via https://www.celnisprava.cz/eng/ for current personal-import policy if your situation is exceptional (medical / diplomatic).
This page covers destination customs rules in Czech Republic. Whether you can carry pepper spray through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
Pepper Spray is classified under Class 2.2 — Non-flammable, non-toxic gas. Cabin and checked-baggage rules apply on top of any destination regulation.
