Leaving Malaysia with beer
Beer for personal consumption is freely exportable from Malaysia. Destination-country customs rules govern the arrival side. Excise duty is remitted at export for commercial quantities; personal-use quantities do not trigger commercial-export documentation.
Travellers' relief: wine, spirits, beer or malt liquor not exceeding 1 L in total; new apparel up to 3 pieces; food preparations up to RM150; all other goods up to RM500 in total value — cigarettes, tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaping liquids are excluded from the relief. Goods from the Labuan, Langkawi and Tioman duty-free islands follow separate rules.
Standard beer allowance typically 16L per traveler 18+. Above the allowance, excise + 6% VAT applies.
This page covers destination customs rules in Malaysia. Whether you can carry beer through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
Beer is classified under Class 3 — Flammable liquids. Cabin and checked-baggage rules apply on top of any destination regulation.
