Full details
Firearms is prohibited for travelers entering Russia. Federal Customs Service (FTS Russia) screens baggage at all ports of entry; the item is seized regardless of quantity, and depending on item class (narcotic / weapon / counterfeit / cultural-heritage), the traveler may face administrative or criminal penalty under the destination's controlled-substances / customs act. EU customs harmonisation and EU Regulation 608/2013 IPR enforcement apply alongside national rules. Personal-import permit pathways exist for medication categories (see Federal Customs Service (FTS Russia) guidance) but do not apply to most prohibited items.

Leaving Russia with firearms
Export of firearms from Russia requires advance authorisation issued before departure under the national firearms-control legislation. Unlicensed firearms export is a serious criminal offence carrying substantial fines and imprisonment. Even properly licensed domestic owners require the separate export authorisation for cross-border movement, and ammunition and firearm parts (barrels, receivers) fall under the same framework. Airlines additionally require advance notice and locked-case carriage in checked baggage.
Do not carry Firearms into Russia. If you arrive with the item by accident, surrender at the Red Channel for seizure-only treatment rather than walking the Green Channel — the latter is treated as deliberate smuggling. Contact Federal Customs Service (FTS Russia) via https://eng.customs.gov.ru/ for current personal-import policy if your situation is exceptional (medical / diplomatic).
This page covers destination customs rules in Russia. Whether you can carry firearms through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
Russia is named by UK OFSI Russia sanctions. Commercial and high-value movements may require a licence or blocking-regulation check. Personal travelers should verify whether the specific item or payment method is caught.
