Can I bring Energy Drinks into France?
Legal since 2008; previously restricted
Full details
France permits the import of standard caffeine-only energy drinks (Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar) without restriction. Energy drinks containing taurine or guarana over French-regulated thresholds, as well as those with added vitamins exceeding ANSES daily reference values, are restricted; commercial imports of these face DGCCRF review. Personal-use carriage of moderate quantities (24-can case or less) clears without comment.
Rare — Enforcement reported rarely.
No special procedure is required for personal quantities of energy drinks arriving in France. Quantities above duty-free allowances must still be declared. Verify current limits with Direction générale des douanes et droits indirects (DGDDI — French Customs).
This page covers destination customs rules in France. Whether you can carry energy drinks through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
