Japan Customs does not restrict import of drone accessories for personal use. JCAB (Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, under MLIT) mirrors IATA DGR for lithium battery transport: spare LiPo batteries must be in carry-on. Batteries under 100Wh are unrestricted; 100-160Wh requires airline approval. From June 2022, all drones over 100g must be registered with MLIT under the Civil Aeronautics Act revision. Flying in urban areas, near airports, and at night requires MLIT approval under the Drone Registration System. Customs declaration required if drone accessories total value exceeds ¥200,000.
Register your drone in the MLIT Drone Registration System before departure. Pack spare batteries in carry-on. Check airspace restrictions with the MLIT Drone JP portal — most urban areas and national parks require prior approval.
