Full details
Singapore banned the importation and sale of chewing gum in 1992 under the Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations, citing damage to public property and cleanliness concerns. The ban was partially relaxed in 2004 after the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement to permit therapeutic gums (dental or nicotine gums) available on prescription or from a pharmacist. Tourists may bring a small personal supply of therapeutic gum (e.g., Nicorette) for personal use. Regular confectionery chewing gum remains prohibited — including popular brands like Extra, Orbit, and Hubba Bubba. Attempting to import or sell non-therapeutic gum can result in fines of up to SGD 100,000 and/or imprisonment.
Active — Customs actively enforces this rule.
Leave regular chewing gum at home. Nicotine or dental therapeutic gums bought from a pharmacy are fine to bring in personal quantities.
