Full details
Australia prohibits the importation of cannabis seeds under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 and the Criminal Code Act 1995. Cannabis is a Schedule 9 prohibited substance. The Australian Border Force (ABF) uses detector dogs and X-ray technology to intercept seeds. Penalties for importing a prohibited import include up to 10 years imprisonment. Seeds are also subject to biosecurity risk assessment — undeclared plant material can attract separate biosecurity fines. There are no personal use exemptions.
Active — Customs actively enforces this rule.
Available. ABF (Australian Border Force) accepts voluntary surrender. Declare at Red Channel. Seeds destroyed on-site. AQIS biosecurity seizure receipt issued. No criminal referral for personal-quantity voluntary surrender.
Do not bring cannabis seeds into Australia. ABF biosecurity and drug detection are thorough at all international entry points.
