Restricted status means compliant carriage is achievable with the right paperwork and quantities; the practical risks are seizure, duty, and delay rather than criminal liability for a good-faith traveller. Arrival checks are carried out by Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD); when in doubt use the declare (red) channel — declared goods at worst attract duty or surrender, while undeclared goods attract penalties. Leaving Malaysia with antiquities is a separate question: restricted — Antiquities export from Malaysia is controlled — protected cultural objects need an export permit before leaving the country.

Purchased antique-style items should carry dealer invoices identifying age and origin so customs can distinguish them from protected material. Destination-side, many countries enforce origin-country claims under the 1970 UNESCO Convention — provenance paperwork matters on both sides.
