Receiving an international courier parcel
Inbound DHL/FedEx/UPS parcel arrives at your address: customs clearance, duty + VAT payment, broker fees, refusal options.
Checklist
- 01
Carrier scans parcel at destination customs. If value > de-minimis, carrier broker pre-clears.
- 02
You receive an SMS/email with cleared duty + VAT + handling fee. Pay online or refuse delivery (parcel returns to sender, refund processing).
- 03
Handling fees: DHL Express USD 17, FedEx USD 12, UPS USD 15 typical for clearance work โ these are NOT duty, they are carrier fees.
- 04
Disputed valuation: request 'classified valuation review' via the carrier. Provide purchase receipt; refund of overcharged duty within 30 days.
- 05
Refused parcels: typically held 5-10 days at destination warehouse then returned. Some carriers will divert to a 'hold for pickup' address.
