Japan prohibits the import of fresh fruit by post from most countries due to plant quarantine regulations. Only fruit from countries with specific phytosanitary agreements is accepted, and even then only through approved channels with phytosanitary certificates. Enforcement in Japan carries fines from JPY 100,000 to JPY 30,000,000 and imprisonment up to 10 years in aggravated cases under Customs Law Art. 109 (prohibited imports); Narcotics Control Law Art. 64.
