Lanes covered by this FTA (1)

Commodity coverage

Comprehensive FTA covering goods, services, investment, digital trade, intellectual property, government procurement, and labour/environment chapters. Tariff elimination on 99% of UK exports to Australia and 100% of Australian exports to UK on entry into force; remaining tariff lines (largely UK agricultural protection on Australian dairy, beef, lamb, sugar) phase down over 5-15 years. Mutual recognition of professional qualifications. Agricultural origin-quota mechanisms contain sensitive-sector imports. Dispute settlement via state-state arbitration; investment chapter excludes ISDS, opting instead for a state-state mechanism plus diplomatic protection.

Rules of origin

Product-specific rules of origin; most manufactured goods satisfy change-in-tariff-classification or regional value content ≥ 40%. Bilateral cumulation allowed.

Certificate of origin

Importer's declaration on the commercial invoice or equivalent, or a Certificate of Origin issued by an approved authority.

Notes

Entered into force 2023-05-31. First new post-Brexit FTA from scratch with a major economy.
