MRN

Also known as: Movement Reference Number

The unique tracking number assigned by EU/UK customs to every electronic declaration.

MRN (Movement Reference Number) is the 18-character alphanumeric reference assigned by EU member-state customs authorities (and UK CDS) to every electronic customs declaration. Format includes the year, the country code of the issuing customs office, and a unique sequence. Carriers, freight forwarders, and consignees use the MRN to track entries through clearance, link to shipping documents (CMR, bill of lading), and trigger transit-document closure. Failure to quote the correct MRN on transport documents is a leading cause of holds.
