Taking satellite messenger out of Japan
Satellite messengers (Garmin inReach, SPOT, satellite-SMS devices) may face export controls from Japan and are restricted at several destinations.
Details
Personal satellite messengers fall under the same dual-use satellite-communication framework as satellite phones in most jurisdictions. Personal-use export from Japan is typically permitted under general licence, but sanctions-listed destinations face licence-required treatment. The sharper constraint is destination-side: several countries (India, China, Myanmar, Cuba, and others at various times) restrict or prohibit satellite-communication devices at import, with confiscation and prosecution reported for undeclared devices.
