GOODS ACROSS BORDERS
DEPARTURE RULE🇮🇹 ITALY

Taking collectible coins (numismatic) out of Italy

STATUS · RESTRICTED

Italy requires an export licence for cultural goods — items over 70 years old need clearance from an export office before leaving the country.

Details

Under the Codice dei Beni Culturali (D.Lgs. 42/2004), cultural goods more than 70 years old require an export licence (attestato di libera circolazione) from a regional export office before removal from Italy, and an EU export licence for destinations outside the EU. This covers antique furniture, paintings, books, and archaeological items. Unlicensed export is a criminal offence with seizure. Modern reproductions and items under the age threshold move freely with a purchase invoice.
