Full details
China General Administration of Customs allows travelers aged 18 or over to bring 1.5 litres of alcoholic beverages duty-free per visit (Personal Articles Schedule). Quantities above the allowance are subject to import duty plus VAT and consumption tax under the personal-articles regime. Wine for commercial sale requires a separate trade import licence and CIQ inspection.
Occasional — Enforcement reported intermittently.
Duty-free for travelers entering China: 1.5L of alcohol (≥12% ABV), 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500g tobacco, and personal goods (excluding alcohol and tobacco) with total value of RMB 5,000 (~$730 USD). Chinese residents returning from abroad who exceed this limit pay customs duty on the excess. Residents of Hong Kong and Macao have a lower allowance.
Pack within the 1.5 L limit if entering by air. Excess wine is more cost-effectively bought duty-paid in China than declared at the border.

This page covers destination customs rules in China. Whether you can carry wine through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
Wine is classified under Class 3 — Flammable liquids. Cabin and checked-baggage rules apply on top of any destination regulation.
