Taxidermied specimens of CITES-listed species require both export permits from the source country and import permits from the destination country. CITES Appendix I species (tigers, leopards, bears, etc.) are commercially prohibited. Appendix II species (lions, hippos, many raptors) require permits. Enforcement in United Kingdom carries fines from GBP 250 to GBP 20,000 under Customs and Excise Management Act 1979 s.78, s.170 (ordinary personal cases are handled as civil infringements).
