Poppy seeds classified as prohibited import
Details
Singapore's Misuse of Drugs Act treats poppy seeds (papaver somniferum) as a controlled substance because of trace morphine content. Importation by travelers — culinary, cooking, or otherwise — is prohibited regardless of quantity, even sealed retail packaging from a permitted-country origin. ICA officers screen baggage at Changi for South Asian / Eastern European arrivals; seized seeds are destroyed and travelers are issued a written warning. Repeat or commercial-quantity attempts are prosecuted.
