Full details

EU Regulation (EC) 206/2009 prohibits passengers arriving from non-EU countries from bringing meat and meat products (including processed and cured meats) for personal consumption into any EU Member State, including Spain. This prohibition applies regardless of quantity and exists to prevent the introduction of animal diseases. The prohibition covers beef, poultry, pork, game meat, and products derived from them. Customs authorities at Spanish ports of entry enforce the ban and confiscate non-compliant items. Commercial imports require veterinary health certificates and border inspection.

ENFORCEMENT

OccasionalEnforcement reported intermittently.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Consume or dispose of all meat products before arriving in Spain from a non-EU country. Declare any animal-derived products at customs even if you are unsure whether they are covered, to avoid fines.
