Sterilised hemp seeds for food use are legal in Canada and may be brought in by travellers, subject to declaration and food import rules.

Details

Health Canada and CBSA permit sterilised hemp seeds (hulled or non-viable) as a food product under the Cannabis Act 2018 and Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. Hemp seeds with ≤10 µg/g THC are legal for food use. Personal quantities of commercially packaged sterilised hemp seeds may be brought in as food; travellers must declare all food items on arrival. Commercial quantities are subject to CFIA import requirements. Industrial hemp (non-psychoactive) seed products are regulated separately from cannabis under the Industrial Hemp Regulations.
