Full details
Firearms is prohibited for travelers entering Sweden. Tullverket (Swedish Customs) screens baggage at all ports of entry; the item is seized regardless of quantity, and depending on item class (narcotic / weapon / counterfeit / cultural-heritage), the traveler may face administrative or criminal penalty under the destination's controlled-substances / customs act. EU customs harmonisation and EU Regulation 608/2013 IPR enforcement apply alongside national rules. Personal-import permit pathways exist for medication categories (see Tullverket (Swedish Customs) guidance) but do not apply to most prohibited items.
PENALTIES
- Fine: 5000–400000 SEK
- Imprisonment up to 120 months

Leaving Sweden with firearms
Export of firearms from Sweden requires advance authorisation issued before departure under Vapenlagen 1996:67; EU Firearms Regulation 258/2012. Unlicensed firearms export is a serious criminal offence carrying substantial fines and imprisonment. Even properly licensed domestic owners require the separate export authorisation for cross-border movement, and ammunition and firearm parts (barrels, receivers) fall under the same framework. Airlines additionally require advance notice and locked-case carriage in checked baggage.
Do not carry Firearms into Sweden. If you arrive with the item by accident, surrender at the Red Channel for seizure-only treatment rather than walking the Green Channel — the latter is treated as deliberate smuggling. Contact Tullverket (Swedish Customs) via https://www.tullverket.se/ for current personal-import policy if your situation is exceptional (medical / diplomatic).
This page covers destination customs rules in Sweden. Whether you can carry firearms through security, in carry-on, or in checked baggage depends on airline and screening rules — see air travel rules.
