Firearms is prohibited for travelers entering Hungary. National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) — Customs Directorate screens baggage at all ports of entry; the item is seized regardless of quantity, and depending on item class (narcotic / weapon / counterfeit / cultural-heritage), the traveler may face administrative or criminal penalty under the destination's controlled-substances / customs act. EU customs harmonisation and EU Regulation 608/2013 IPR enforcement apply alongside national rules. Personal-import permit pathways exist for medication categories (see National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) — Customs Directorate guidance) but do not apply to most prohibited items.

Leaving Hungary with firearms
Export of firearms from Hungary requires advance authorisation issued before departure under the national firearms-control legislation. Unlicensed firearms export is a serious criminal offence carrying substantial fines and imprisonment. Even properly licensed domestic owners require the separate export authorisation for cross-border movement, and ammunition and firearm parts (barrels, receivers) fall under the same framework. Airlines additionally require advance notice and locked-case carriage in checked baggage.
Do not carry Firearms into Hungary. If you arrive with the item by accident, surrender at the Red Channel for seizure-only treatment rather than walking the Green Channel — the latter is treated as deliberate smuggling.
