Japan Customs (Ministry of Finance) permits personal electronics including e-readers without restriction for travellers. Items for personal use are duty-exempt under Japan's traveller exemption (up to ¥200,000 value for overseas purchases). The integrated lithium battery must comply with IATA DGR: batteries under 100Wh are permitted in carry-on without airline approval. A standard e-reader battery (1-3Wh) is far below this limit. Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) mirrors ICAO/IATA standards for lithium battery carriage.
