Self-drive road-trip across 3+ borders (e.g. Europe Schengen + Balkans, US-Mexico-Belize, SE Asia): documents, road taxes, insurance.
Checklist

Documents per border: passport, vehicle registration (V5 / equivalent), valid driving licence, international driving permit (IDP) for non-Schengen.

Insurance: home-country insurance covers some destinations. EU Green Card extends to ~50 countries. Outside coverage: buy temporary border insurance.

Road taxes: vignettes (CH, AT, SK, SI, HU, RO, BG, CZ), toll-stickers (Italy, France), e-toll (Germany freight + heavy goods). Buy at first service area in each country.

Drive-side: right-hand drive in UK / Ireland / Cyprus / Malta + most Caribbean + AU / NZ / Japan / Thailand / Indonesia / South Africa. Plan rentals accordingly.

Vehicle paperwork: keep originals; carry photocopies separately.
