GOODS ACROSS BORDERS
FOR EXPAT

Art dealer crossing borders with works

Carrying art for exhibition / sale across borders: ATA Carnet, CITES on ivory / coral mounts, provenance documentation, insurance.

Checklist

  1. 01

ATA Carnet: issued by your home chamber of commerce. Valid 12 months for temporary admission to 80+ countries. Eliminates customs duty + VAT on works for exhibition / sale.

  2. 02

Provenance: each work needs a clean ownership chain. UNESCO 1970 Convention restricts movement of cultural property without origin-country export permit.

  3. 03

CITES: ivory inlays, tortoise-shell marquetry, coral mounts, exotic-wood frames trigger CITES Appendix I/II requirements regardless of HS code.

  4. 04

Insurance: fine-art transit insurance separately from carrier insurance; nail-to-nail coverage with named conservator.

  5. 05

Customs clearance: dedicated art-shipper (Crozier, Atelier 4, Momart) coordinates with destination broker.
