Lao Post and the Lao Customs Department handle international inbound mail at Vientiane (Wattay) IMC. Personal-import parcels under USD 50 (LAK 1,000,000) clear duty-free; above this, customs duty (5-40% by HS chapter) plus 7% VAT applies. Prohibited postal items: narcotics, firearms, ammunition, counterfeit goods, materials politically sensitive to the LPDR government, religious items in commercial quantities, hazardous chemicals (IATA DG class 1-6). Personal-effects parcels from family abroad clear under simplified-entry; commercial parcels require HS classification + commercial invoice. Pharmaceutical mail orders require Food and Drug Department (FDD) pre-approval.
