GOODS ACROSS BORDERS

EXW

Also known as: Ex Works

An Incoterm where the seller makes goods available at their premises; the buyer handles everything else.

EXW (Ex Works) is the most seller-minimal Incoterm 2020 rule. The seller makes the goods available at their named place (usually factory or warehouse), without loading, without export clearance. The buyer bears all responsibility and cost from that point: loading, transport, export clearance, freight, insurance, import clearance, delivery. EXW is administratively simple for the seller but onerous for the buyer — the buyer must coordinate the origin-country export paperwork without local-language support.
