De minimis
Also known as: De minimis threshold, Low-value import threshold
The value below which a country waives import duty and/or tax on individual shipments.
De minimis is the customs-value ceiling below which a shipment enters a country duty-free and often tax-free. Every customs authority sets its own level: US Section 321 (USD 800 per addressee per day), EU IOSS (EUR 150 for VAT-prepaid ecommerce), UK (GBP 135 for VAT collection by seller), Canada (CAD 20 for duty, CAD 40 for taxes), Indonesia (USD 3 — one of the lowest). Above the threshold the carrier or postal operator clears duty and VAT and bills the recipient.
