Digital pre-arrival apps

Mobile Passport Control is a free CBP-authorized app that replaces the paper CBP Form 6059B customs declaration for eligible travelers arriving in the United States. Available at over 30 US airports, it creates a dedicated MPC queue that is typically faster than the standard non-US citizen queue.

Eligible passport holders: US citizens, US lawful permanent residents (green card), and Canadian citizens traveling on a Canadian passport. Visa Waiver Program travelers and other foreign nationals are not eligible.

MPC is not the same as Global Entry. Global Entry requires a separate application, interview, and background check. MPC requires no pre-enrollment — download the app, create a profile, and complete the declaration on arrival.

ArriveCAN was introduced in 2020 as a mandatory COVID-19 screening and vaccination verification tool. It was made mandatory for all travelers entering Canada from 2020 to 2023, then reverted to optional status following the end of the public health emergency.

In its current optional form, ArriveCAN allows travelers to submit advance customs and declaration information (replacing the paper E311 card), save traveler profiles, and access their declaration confirmation at the CBSA officer. Paper E311 forms remain accepted at all land and air ports of entry.

Singapore's SG Arrival Card is a mandatory electronic submission for all travelers — residents and visitors — arriving in Singapore. It must be submitted within three days before arrival. The SG Arrival Card replaced the paper Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (DE Card) that was previously issued on board aircraft.

The form captures personal details, passport information, health declarations, and travel history. Completing it before departure avoids queuing at electronic kiosks at Changi Airport. The confirmation is presented digitally to immigration officers.

All nationalities arriving in Singapore must complete the SG Arrival Card, including Singapore permanent residents and long-term pass holders (via a separate SG Arrival Card with pass authentication).

Visit Japan Web is the Japanese government's digital pre-arrival portal. Registration allows travelers to complete the immigration arrival card, customs declaration, and tax-free shopping registration before departure. Completed registrations generate QR codes presented at dedicated kiosks at major Japanese airports, significantly reducing processing time.

Paper forms remain available. Visit Japan Web is not mandatory, but registration is strongly recommended for travelers to major entry points including Narita, Haneda, Kansai, and Chubu. The system handles multiple family members on a single account.

Visit Japan Web also functions as the portal for the Japan Electronic Travel Authorization (J-ETA) which some nationalities must obtain before arrival. Confirm whether your nationality requires J-ETA.

The UK does not issue a passenger-facing pre-arrival app. Instead, automated ePassport gates at UK airports handle immigration for eligible passport holders without officer involvement. There is no advance registration or app to download.

ePassport gate eligibility: UK and Irish citizens, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with biometric passports, and nationals of certain other countries where bilateral agreements exist (including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and others). Age minimum is typically 10 or 12 years, varying by terminal.

There is no customs declaration form for most travelers entering the UK. Passengers with dutiable goods or restricted items use the Red Lane at customs. Most travelers with nothing to declare walk through the Green Lane without stopping.

Air Suvidha was India's mandatory pre-arrival health declaration portal, introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic for all travelers arriving in India. Travelers were required to upload vaccination certificates, test results, and health declarations before departure. It was decommissioned as a mandatory requirement following the end of COVID-related health measures.

The platform infrastructure remains and may be reactivated. Check current Ministry of Health and Family Welfare guidance if traveling to India, particularly during periods of elevated health risk.

South Korea's Q-CODE is an optional health questionnaire system that generates a QR code for use at Incheon and Gimpo airports. It was implemented during the COVID-19 period and is now optional for most travelers. Completing it in advance allows travelers to pass through health screening desks more quickly.

South Korea's customs declaration and immigration forms remain paper-based for most travelers. The K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is a separate requirement that applies to eligible nationals — this is an entry authorization, not a pre-arrival health declaration, and must be obtained before departure.
