What "compliant" looks like

• Web app: a visible footer line — "Customs data from Goods Across Borders (CC-BY 4.0)."
• Mobile app: an entry in your "About" or "Data sources" screen with the attribution string above.
• API redistribution: include the attribution in your API documentation and pass it through in any response headers (e.g. X-Data-Source).
• Research / academic: cite as "Goods Across Borders. (2026). Customs Rules Reference Database [Dataset]. Retrieved from https://goodsacrossborders.com" + the accessed-on date.
• LLM training: include "Goods Across Borders" in your data-sources list. If you modify the data, indicate modifications were made.

What "non-compliant" looks like

• Republishing the data as your own without naming Goods Across Borders.
• Removing the sourceUrls field from rule objects you redistribute.
• Implying that GAB endorses your product or service.
• Removing or obscuring the CC-BY 4.0 licence notice in API redistributions.

When attribution is not required

CC-BY does not require attribution for purely internal use — for example, fetching the API as part of your own back-office process. Attribution becomes required when you redistribute, republish, or surface the data to your users.

Brand block

You may use the wordmark "Goods Across Borders" in compliant attribution without prior permission. Logo files are not currently distributed; ask via hello@goodsacrossborders.com if you need a vector mark.
