Customs notes

CBP primary inspection in TBIT (Tom Bradley) and T2/T7 arrival halls. Global Entry kiosks available in TBIT and T2. Mobile Passport Control accepted in all international arrival halls. Declaration thresholds identical to JFK ($800 exemption, $10,000 currency declaration).

Transit

No sterile international transit. Passengers reclaim bags, clear CBP, and recheck. Terminal-to-terminal connections use the LAX shuttle or, from 2024, the LAX Automated People Mover where operational.

Pre-arrival apps / forms

  • Mobile Passport Control (MPC)
  • Global Entry

Known quirks

  • TBIT (Tom Bradley) handles most international arrivals but some connect through T2 or T6
  • Agricultural beagle teams operate K-9 inspections in the baggage claim — undeclared fruit/meat triggers a secondary search
  • Secondary inspection queues can exceed 90 minutes on peak afternoon arrivals
